Ingredients

  • 1 Head of Green Cabbage, Cut Into 1-inch Slices
  • 1 lb. Lean Ground Beef
  • ½ Cup Tomato Sauce
  • ½ Cup Shredded Cheese (Mozzarella, Monterey Jack), Divided (Maintenance Only)
  • ½ Tsp. Salt and Black Pepper
  • ½ Tsp. Red Chili Pepper Flakes
  • 1 Tsp. Grated Garlic
  • ½ Cup Chopped Green Onion
  • ½ Cup Chopped Parsley

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400ºF (200ºC). Arrange the cabbage slices on a rimmed sheet pan. Brush a little oil on the cabbage slices and season with salt and pepper.

Step 2

Roast the cabbage slices in the oven for about 10 minutes so they get precooked.

Step 3

In the meantime, combine the lean ground beef with garlic, green onion, parsley, red chili pepper flakes, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Divide the mixture into four beef patties.

Step 4

Remove cabbage from the oven, then spread a tablespoon of tomato sauce on top and then top with a beef pattie. Put another layer of tomato sauce on the burger (sprinkle a layer of shredded cheese if in maintenance).

Step 5

Bake the cabbage beef burgers in the oven for 10-12 minutes or until the burgers are done to your liking and top with fresh herbs.
